Winter17 Lightning Tree [2] ($150 / SOLD!)
This is another piece from my first Lichtenberg Series. It's unique in that it includes two rather deeply distinctive burns.
The first burn—which runs in an almost perfect vertically-centered line—is similar to the other "lightning" lamps in this run; the burn, however, has a really deep central channel and just a few shallower "branches." As this first burn worked down, the second burn—which began at the base of the lamp—worked up slowly, but didn't quite meet the first "strike" emanating from above. Thus, the overall burn took the shape of a bolt of lightning almost striking a tree.
This desk lamp is distinguished from the Lightning Tree [1] by the two rather predominant knots (each is approximately fine inches in length) on each side of the "tree." This lamp, more than any other, has a truly unique texture.
The base measurements for this lamp are: 1.5 inches (D), 9.25 inches (W), and 13 inches (L). The edges were routered with a Classical bit; it was colored with several coats of a home-made driftwood stain to which I then added two coats of Summer Oak. It was and then finished with two coats of clear shellac.
The lamp's upright fixture is composed of a series 1/2 inch black malleable iron fittings; each fitting was colored with a metallic gold spray-paint; the lamp's fixture stands 11 inches in height and the 3.5 inch Edison bulb (amber, with a vintage thread filament) is included in the price. Thus, the total upright height is 15.5 inches.
There are, actually, two On/Off switches on this lamp. There is a classical key attached to the socket's base and then a rocker on the lamp's black braided cloth extension chord, which measures 60 inches from the lamp's base.
